  I supported my elderly father for the period in which he was being represented by Sussex Defence Solicitors for an alleged driving offence. I have now viewed more closely the documentation of the case, as my father is still distressed as a result of the actions and inaction of a partner of the firm who he feels so badly let him down. In conveying just a few of several issues that I have identified, he had to press for evidence in his favour to be included in court. To then find that some agreed evidence was not only missing, but conveyed to the magistrates court in a confusing, amateur looking pack. Missing evidence from the pack included a Consultant's Road Traffic Accident Report.

  Sussex Defence required a 12 page Agreement to be signed before they would represent him in court, which was also the case unless paid in advance. In looking through the invoices, my father paid Sussex Defence a total of £9,000 which he paid in his belief that as a client of the firm, he would be represented in a constructive, reliable and client focussed manner, which was not the case.

  Sussex Defence Solicitors trumpet their close working relationship with Sussex Police. They receive referrals from the police for likely fee paying clients. This could potentially be perceived as a conflict of interest between a financial interest with the police and the interests of the client in representation.

  I was being charged with an alleged motoring offence where the other party had a so called witness and who’s written statements of the incident were significantly different. Lies were shown to have occurred; financial compensation was claimed. My solicitor would not pursue my specific request for body cam footage which would normally have been taken of a witness, as was the case with others that had been recorded. He was also reluctant to recognise flawed police and witness evidence while showing reluctance to accept compelling evidence in my own defence. I could convey much more from my records, but this would have the disadvantage of a lengthy account on this platform.
