First time retaining any legal services, and worked with Tim Barnden on an immigration case for a somewhat complicated unmarried partner visa application. His response to my website inquiry was thoughtful and detailed, which convinced me to hire him at a firm partner rate which I consider reasonable with regards to the complexities of my case as well as the timeline outlined. We met intermittently via Microsoft Teams, and my emails were always replied to in full in a timely fashion. In the end, he was a pleasure to work with and all is well, thus he and the firm come with my highest recommendation. Thanks again Tim.

View this review on GoogleI received legal advice from Robert Turner and cannot recommend him highly enough - especially if you are new to seeking legal advice. He is professional and personable at the same time. Rob ensured I understand all the legal language and implications clearly. He also clearly communicated cost implications and was very fair.
View this review on GoogleI want to express my gratitude for the advice given to me by Eloise Carey who was supervised by Matthew Smith. These solicitors were meticulous. They were generous with their time, extremely erudite and willing to explore the nuisances of my case. I would recommended this firm to anyone in search of sound legal advice.
View this review on GoogleBack in May 2021 I agreed to sell a one acre plot of land to a school. Despite both parties agreeing to terms and the price, conveyancers at Bates Wells have drawn out the process to such an extent, 3 years later we STILL have not transferred the land. Despite not completing this transaction they have found time to send me bills in the region of 10k SO FAR.
This period has of course encompassed a period of high inflation so that my agreed price has withered considerably.
Not only that, they have charged my charity, which has 200k in funds 40k for nebulous tasks for which they have not sent me a breakdown.
You have to wonder at the moral probity of an organisation that seeks to exploit charities in this way. This is money that was earmarked for animal welfare programmes in Europe but now it is lining the pockets of corporate apparatchiks!
I have proposed Bates Wells to the Guinness Book of Records as not only are they the worlds slowest conveyancers, they must surely be the most expensive. Surely a world record!
J.Stephenson.
