Extremely unprofessional, called in regarding a letter that was dropped at our premises to do with a company that is clearly no longer here and nothing to do with us.
Explained to an initial admin person this business is no longer here and if this can be updated on their side. I was then passed on to an EXTREMELY rude and aggressive person who claimed “it’s a Friday and I’m disturbing her with something that doesn’t make sense” she then proceeded to gaslight the situation when clearly the tone was normal. If this is how they deal with someone who’s calling in to say they’ve made a mistake and wanted to just simply inform them of this, I would highly recommend avoiding this firm.

View this review on GoogleHighly unprofessional. I used the firm based on a recommendation, I will never be using them again. Please reconsider if you’re thinking of using Bates I’ve outlined why below.
I used the conveying department for a property purchase. The seller misrepresented the sale and so I went back to Bates asking what I should do and my solicitor told me “I don’t know I haven’t had this happen before” - ok fine you haven’t experienced it before but when you’re paying a premium for a London legal firm I would at least expect something along the lines of “I’ll get back to you”.
Anyway I tackled this issue separately because of their unhelpful response. But then a year later I receive a letter from a debt collector saying part of the payment for the property has not been made. I check my completion statement and Bates did request this from me and I did pay it. Yet for a whole year Bates held onto the money, I asked for a simple yes or no answer to if the funds had been transferred and 1 month later no response. I even suggested they transfer the funds back to me and I pay the recipient directly. No response to that either.
If they can’t even make a simple payment I really doubt the quality of any other legal work. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
